IT Facilities
All students joining ICRI Global Research programmes are required to possess a laptop computer (All International students are offered a facility to loan a laptop from ICRI Global Research whilst they are registered on a programme).
All registered students are permitted to log-in to the campus wireless network allowing them access to the intranet/VLE, email, internet, printers and scanners.
The ICRI Global Research virtual learning environment (VLE) is a core IT resource and is used to support all academic and administrative functions of the campus.
Knowledge Centre
Clinical Research is a technical discipline within which methods, practices, guidelines and regulations are rapidly evolving and changing consequently a blend of electronic resources and more formal hardcopy is the most effective approach to ensuring knowledge in clinical research is always up to date and relevant. To ensure all students can gain the most from this integrated "knowledge centre" ICRI Global Research requests that all course participants provide their own or hire a wireless enabled laptop before commencing a programme.
The campus is WiFi enabled throughout through which all registered users can connect to the intranet, all print functions and the internet. Five self-access PC’s & two black & white printers are provided in addition to 15 workstations for self-study, whilst all training rooms are available on open access from 0900 to 1800 Monday – Saturday allowing maximum desk space for self-study.
The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) associated with the intranet functionality lies at the heart of the knowledge centre. The VLE is utilised to support self-study through accessibility to lecture notes, case studies, supporting reading material in pdf form, technical FAQ’s in addition to pastoral and social support information such as directions to shops, hospitals, transport etc. Finally the VLE is critical in providing students access to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) e-library (ICRI Global Research delivers the MUSC MSc in Clinical Research in its UK & Singapore campuses) which enables immediate access to virtually every publication relevant to the programmes ICRI Global Research delivers.
Hardcopy texts remain important and therefore ICRI Global Research (through ICRI in India) has two important agreements concerning access to core reference materials in the clinical research sector: an agreement to publish Thompson Centerwatch (US orientated information) & Institute of Clinical Research (a totally independent & unrelated organisation to ICRI) for UK & EU centric information. Publications from both these organisations along with several core texts published by ICRI (eg Principles of Clinical Research – edited by Dr SK Gupta Dean & Director General, ICRI) are available with the physical aspect of the knowledge centre.
Student social areas – Common Room
On the ground floor of the facility is a general open-plan indoor relaxed seating area next to an outdoor patio solely for ICRI Global Research with associated seating. This area is equipped with equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, and a water boiler along with chilled drinking water and all students are free to prepare refreshments at anytime. Within Milton Keynes Business Centre there is an independently operated cafe which the students are free to use and is open for breakfast and lunch.
